The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign ramped up in Appleton with the Fox Cities Go Red Event for 2020.
In 2004, when the AHA started the Go Red For Women campaign, they noted that "Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention." To draw attention to this disease and its all-too unknown impact on women, the Fox Cities branch of the AHA put pulled out all the stops to bring healthy living experts and health care professionals together with the community to raise awareness. We were brought in to capture the event.
The host for the event was Fox 11 news anchor Rachel Manek, an Appleton native who always gives enthusiastic support to local causes and organizations.
Joining Rachel Manek in support of the event were local health leaders, including Dr. Kay Theyerl of ThedaCare's Lifestyle Clinic. The pair celebrated with a selfie.
Dr. Theyerl also gave an impassioned speech about lifestyle choices and health eating and how simple changes in those areas could vastly improve health outcomes and save lives.
Here are a few other images from a fun and informative event.
